Hello Parents.

It is with great sorrow that the 2020 football season for the WBYFO will not go on as planned. There were too many reasons as why not to compete this year that were outside of our control.  Please take the time to read the announcement and if there are any questions please reach out to me.

Thanks

Randy

7/18/2020 info below

We are just over 2 weeks away from our scheduled start of the 2020 Youth Football Season.  Since my last letter to you we still do not have a concrete answer how this season will occur or not.  Outlined below are actions and topics that we have addressed or discussed.  Additionally, I have listed the unknowns that still are work-in-process as of today’s letter.

What has happened since May 2020?

  1. The WBYFO board has met and discussed reasons to have a football season and what would need to be done to have a successful season.
  2. The WBYFO discussed what equipment is available to reduce the risk of getting Covid-19
    1. We discussed face shields that cover the eyes only.
    2. We discussed a new addition to the face shields that is being designed by Oakley.
      1. The costs for these 2 items are $47.00 per helmet for the eye shield and an undisclosed price for the new addition – estimated roughly an additional $47.00.
      2. Incorporating these costs would create an unplanned expense of roughly $14,000 if we decide to include.  This could potentially be an extra expense that would drive an increase cost to the families.
    3. We discussed adding cloth masks to the inside of the facemask.
      1. More information is required from our League heads and insurance if it is allowed, as this is adding an accessory to a helmet.
      2. We are unaware of the comfort level of this with the players; will it obstruct normal breathing during normal to heavy activity?
  3. The WIAA communicated a very vague guideline for dealing with the Pandemic on July 1st.
    1. https://www.wiaawi.org/Portals/0/PDF/Health/Covid/WIAA-SummerGuide-Sport-Specific.pdf
  4. The AAYFL has scheduled a meeting for all Organizations to be held this Sunday evening to discuss how to proceed forward.
  5. The WBYFO has discussed ways to alter the way we normally due equipment handout along with other items related to this season, to make sure we have safe and healthy processes for the players, coaches, and families.

As depicted above, our guiding professional organizations have identified very vague guidelines as of to-date, to aid youth leagues in proceeding forward for fall sports.

Items the WBYFO is waiting answers on from the AAYFL and hopefully will get them in Sunday’s meeting.

  1. What happens if a player/coach gets Covid-19?
    1. 2 week quarantine?
    2. 2 days of consecutive negative testing on the player before they are allowed to return?
  2. What happens to the teammates/coaches from the infected player’s team?
    1. Do they fall under the 2 week quarantine?
  3. What if a member of another team we played becomes infected?
    1. Do our players need testing?
    2. Do our players need to be quarantined?
  4. What happens if the referee of our game becomes infected?
  5. How do we conduct practices in a safe manner?

Items the WBYFO is waiting answers on from the WBSD.

  1. What protocols will be in place to use the field and supporting facilities to have practice, scrimmages and games this season?
  2. How will the high school programs be conducting practices?
  3. In my conversation with the West AD, I was told that they planned on meeting with the Superintendant, and facilities Director at the end of the Month to discuss how to move forward with the fall sports. I have asked to be a part of the discussion and presently am waiting on a response.

I was informed July 17th that the auditorium that was reserved for our parent meeting on Wednesday, July 22nd, will not be available due to Covid-19.  I am in the process of identifying a different venue, in hope to hold the Parent’s meeting if we are to move forward with the season.

After Sunday’s meeting with the AAYFL, if the answers to our questions I get are acceptable to proceed safely, the next step is to meet with the WBYFO Board, the Coaches, and ultimately the Parents.

One major new requirement by the AAYFL for this season, which all organization’s (WBYFO) need 2-4 Covid-19 Responders on each team. The role for the responders is as follows at a minimum.  This is a MUST and CRITICAL requirement for all organizations to have a season.

  1. Take daily temperatures with infrared heat gun of every player and coach prior to practice, scrimmages, and games along with formally recording these results.
  2. Inform the head coach of the findings and report any player or coach who records a temp that exceeds the allowable limit and then report this to the respective parent, Head Coach, and the Director immediately.

  1. Turn in completed temp forms to the Director at the end of every week.
  2. Be the liaison to communicate between the family, the Director, and Head Coach.

We also will need 2 people per team to help sanitize practice equipment prior to and after we have used the equipment (tackling dummies, balls, etc., etc.). These individuals will also be on the sideline helping keep the players at a safe distance and sanitizing game day equipment as needed.

The individuals who fill these positions will need to have a background check per the AAYFL and WBYFO.  The WBYFO will cover the cost.

In summary, there are critical, outstanding questions and guidelines that must be answered if the season will occur; if we can hold organized gatherings, such as equipment handout; or we will have a place to practice and play.  After my meeting on Sunday with the AAYFL and meeting with the WBYFO Board early next week, I will reach out to you again next week with a decision as how the season will progress or not.

If you have any additional questions or topics you need answered, please email me as I want to make sure everyone’s concerns are answered to the best of our ability.

Sincerely,

Randy Pinsch

WBYFO president

Due to AAYFL League rules all Organizations must commit to the number of teams that will participate in the upcoming season by March 1st EXTENDED TO APRIL JUNE 1ST. Our goal is to have 18 kids minimum per team to make the commitment. If the WBYFO is low on any level – The decision will be made at that time to either drop the affected grade level or combine the teams or press on for more players – By combining the 2 teams, all players will have an opportunity to play football and the team will be dropped down to a division where other programs are lacking acceptable numbers.

Grades that would be combined are 5-6 and 7-8

The WBYFO offers a refer a friend incentive where families can earn $50 for each player they recruit into the WBYFO – It does not matter which program or team you refer a friend to – we just ask that you tell your friends about it that may be on the fence or didn’t know about us.

We will not combine East and West programs to fill a level. Our league requires all organizations to follow the School district boundary policy – which in the case of West Bend – it is determined by the oldest siblings/child’s birth date.

Practices Start August 3rd  AUGUST 17th and games are played on Saturdays – "NEW THIS YEAR  GAMES START AUGUST 29TH - THE LEAGUE WILL NOT HAVE GAMES THE FOLLOWING WEEK - LABOR DAY WEEKEND - AND GAMES WILL RESUME SEPTEMBER 12TH"(7/19/20)

......starting after the labor day holiday and con clued on the last Saturday of October. (7/19/20)
